Policies and Procedures

Please check in and sign our guest book located in the front office.  A Grimes Elementary School visitor's badge will be issued at that time.  Impromptu conferencing is prohibited.  We welcome parents, guests and volunteers.  You are welcome to come eat lunch with your child during their lunch time.  You may bring food to your child, or eat with them in the cafeteria.  Please check with their teachers or with the office to see when their class lunch time is scheduled.  If you need to schedule a conference, please make sure to notify the office staff and classroom teachers in time.  Teachers have 24 hours to return parent calls.  Impromptu conferencing and visitation during classroom instruction is a distraction to teachers and students.

Please check in with the office and log your volunteer hours in to the volunteer log book.  PTA is always looking for volunteers to assist with various projects.  If you are able to volunteer on a regular basis, reading with students, or mentoring, please contact the Principal or School Counselor and we will let the teachers know you are available.  We welcome volunteers.  You may log volunteer hours when working with the scouts, coaching Grimes students in sports events, working as a homeroom parent, and attending field trips with your child.  Please make sure you have completed the background security check sent home with your child in their first day packet, or additional forms are available in the front office.  Every hour you log counts towards our accountability.  Thank you in advance for all you do to support our school.

School Supplies

Please check our link for school supplies.  Grimes has, in the past, qualified to receive PASS school supplies to assist with the expense of purchasing items for your student.  We did not qualify this year and therefore supply lists are posted.  If you have any questions, please contact the office at 746-8720.

Birthday Party/Classroom Treats

All treats provided to students must be store bought.  This is a requirement by Tulsa Public Schools.  If you bring treats for your child's birthday, please notify the teacher in advance.  Treats must be distributed by the parent, during their child's lunch hour.  Treats are given to every child in the class and not shared amongst other students in the school. This helps to eliminate conflict.  Thank you very much!

Records Needed to Enroll

All records needed prior to child sitting in class. Please call the school 918.746.8720 or come be and enroll in the office. You must have a current bill with your home address, driver's license, child's birth certificate, and child's vaccination records.

*State issued birth certificate (hospital certificates not acceptable)

*Social Security Card or Passport

*Up to date Shot Records

*Proof of address/residency - 2 current utility bills (City of Tulsa, PSO, or ONG) - cell phone bills and junk mail not accepted.  If in an all bills paid apartment, copy of lease and paycheck stub or letterhead from employer.

*Parent/Guardian(s) Drivers License

Please note that these records are needed even if your child is transferring from another Tulsa Public School.  These records are needed before a child can sit in class and records take at least a week to transfer from one school to another.

Phone Messages

Phone messages for the teachers are written and put in the teacher's mailbox for end of day pick up.  Phone messages to your child are put in the end of day mailbox.  These messages are delivered to your child's end of day class at 2:15 p.m.  If you have end of day plan changes to notify your child, please contact the office before 2:15.  Messages given to the office after the 2:15 delivery time are often held for next day delivery.

Phone Use

Students may use the office phone in case of emergency only.  They must come to the office with written permission from their teacher.  Going home with another child or spending the night does not constitute as an emergency.  Such plans should be determined before the school day begins.

Clinic Information:

Medication is given to students when proper forms are completed in the clinic.  A note from the parent is not acceptable.  Legal forms are required to dispense medication.  Cough drops may not be carried with the child.  They are considered a medication and will only be distributed with appropriate forms through the clinic.  Any over the counter medications and/or prescriptions must come in the original container (where dosage is evident).

Students are sent home in cases of vomiting or fever over 100 degrees.

Please have up to date medical information noted in your child's records.  Food allergies, medications, and emergency contact information must be current and updated as needed.
